AFBELive 2026: The Future of Engineering – From Access to Equity

A bold vision for meaningful change.

The 2026 AFBELive Conference challenges the engineering sector to move beyond opening doors and start building systems that ensure everyone can thrive once they’re inside. Under the theme “The Future of Engineering: From Access to Equity”, this full day event brings together industry leaders, changemakers, students, and early career professionals to explore how engineering can become more inclusive, sustainable, and just.
Four Focus Areas Driving the Conversation:

1. A Pipeline that Delivers Change
Building pathways that turn access into lasting equity
Examining how education, mentorship, and talent development must evolve to create genuine opportunity, not just entry points, but career progression grounded in belonging and support.

2. Trends and Opportunities in Engineering
Spotlighting the innovations reshaping engineering and expanding access to real opportunities
Exploring emerging fields, technological shifts, and industry developments that are redefining what’s possible and who gets to be part of it.

3. Sustainability
Sustainability as a pathway to equity, building resilient, equitable futures
Connecting environmental responsibility with social justice, and recognising that a sustainable future must also be a fair one.

4. Inclusive Supply Chains
Fair, transparent routes into procurement and partnerships
Unpacking how procurement decisions can drive equity, create opportunities for
underrepresented businesses, and reshape industry ecosystems.

What to Expect:

The conference will feature panels, workshops, case studies, keynote addresses,
exhibitions, speed networking, and interactive sessions, designed not just to inform, but to inspire action and collaboration.

Attendees will experience The Next Big Idea, a Dragon’s Den style competition where students and professionals pitch bold, human centred solutions aligned with the conference themes. This high energy showcase celebrates fresh thinking and rewards innovation that drives equity and impact.

After a successful debut at the 2024 conference, the Future Leaders Forum returns as an interactive platform for students and early career professionals to engage directly with employers, hear authentic stories, and build the skills and confidence to lead change in engineering.

The day will conclude with a cocktail reception, offering attendees the chance to forge meaningful connections, continue conversations, and celebrate progress over drinks in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
